Description
1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS
The 1966 Chevelle SS396 was a head-turner. The redesigned Fisher body provided a total new look for the mid-size Chevy that was destined to become a performance icon. At this point, the SS396 had become a unique model in the Chevelle line-up (rather than Option Package Z-16 from the previous year). There were numerous styling enhancements, but the SS396 was truly about performance. This '138' code Chevelle SS396 was the recipient of an impressive frame-off restoration (2013) and is a stunner. The Chevelle's beautiful new coat of Bolero Red was professionally applied and the interior was completely restored in original red vinyl. All of the correct details are there - right down to the Muncie 'hypodermic' shifter'. A full package of SunPro gauge is paired with a nice column mounted tachometer. Windows are tinted and an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo system has been added. The original 396ci 'Rat' has been replaced by a stout 427ci big-block, totally rebuilt and fitted with an aluminum intake, dual-line Holley and nice street cam. Backed by 4-speed manual transmission, this 427 sounds very strong through the free-flowing exhaust. (Fun Fact: A few years later, Don Yenko Chevrolet in Pittsburgh built COPO Chevelles with this same basic drivetrain package.) GM Rally wheels w/trim rings-centers mount stout 15” BFG Radial T/A tires. Our Chevelle is equipped with manual steering, power disc/drum brakes, front sway bar and HD shocks. Look at the photos, but understand that this car must be seen to be fully appreciated. Our Chevelle SS427 is ready for a new owner who will truly value this classic bowtie.
